Another reason North Dakota is on the national stage: Dave Hakstol's Flyers

The former North Dakota hockey coach has the Flyers on their longest winning streak in 30 years.

North Dakota State football is two wins away from a record sixth consecutive national championship. North Dakota men's hockey was ranked No. 1 earlier this season and they're the reigning national champs.

And now former Fighting Sio.. er, Fighting Hawks head coach Dave Hakstol is putting North Dakota in the national spotlight. Hakstol has the Flyers on a 10-game winning streak, the longest they've been on since winning 13 straight during the 1985-86 season.

The last time they won this many in a row, according to Guardian Gate:

  • Ronald Reagan was president
  • George Bush was vice president
  • Gas cost $1.09
  • Stamps were 22 cents
  • Average monthly rent was $375
  • One year tuition cost an average of $1,985
  • The Unibomber became a thing

Hakstol is doing what he always does. Winning. He took North Dakota to seven Frozen Fours in 11 years and he's already 1-for-1 in taking the Flyers to the playoffs.

Philly is all the way up to No. 3 in ESPN's power rankings (the Wild are 10th), but they're not really gaining much ground in the Eastern Conference because Pittsburgh has won six in a row, Columbus is on a seven-game win streak and the Capitals have won five straight.

The Flyers could make it 13 straight if they win two more games and beat the Capitals in a possible Eastern Confernece playoff preview next week.
