Another water main break causes flooding in downtown Minneapolis

The water is turned off in parts of downtown Minneapolis as crews search for the source of an apparent water main break.

KMSP reports the break was reported around 4:20 a.m. at 7th Street S. and Portland Avenue, a few blocks west of Hennepin County Medical Center.

KARE 11 reports streets were flooded and water poured into the basement and lower floor of the Sexton Condos, forcing some residents to evacuate. Flooding was also reported at some nearby apartments, leaving residents knee-deep in water.

Police have not provided any further details regarding the cause of the flooding or how long residents will be displaced from their homes.

A series of water main breaks have disrupted traffic and commerce in Minneapolis in the past year.
