Anytime Fitness reaches milestone, opens 2,000th club

Anytime Fitness Inc. now has 2,000 locations worldwide with the opening of its newest club in The Netherlands, 90 miles east of Amsterdam, according to a news release. The co-ed fitness chain, based in Hastings, Minn., operates clubs in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Grand Cayman, Poland, the Netherlands, Qatar, Spain and Japan.

Anytime notes it only took 10 years to reach the 2,000-unit mark, less than half as long as other well-known franchises like Subway (23 years) and McDonald’s (32 years). However, the Business Journal notes a new McDonald Franchise can cost 10 times that of an Anytime franchise.

Despite an uncertain global economy, the company says a new Anytime Fitness gym opens every 36 hours and a new member joins every three minutes, bringing total membership to 1.5 million globally.

Anytime Fitness agreed to buy Denver-based Waxing the City, a small chain of salons dedicated to waxing and hair removal services, last month.
