An armed suspect was shot by an Edina police officer Saturday morning and remains in critical condition.

Police responded to a welfare check regarding an adult male "displaying threatening behavior" at 10:11 a.m. Saturday, a press release states.

The department says the man showed his weapon when officers arrived at his home on the 7500 block of Cahill Road, just east of Braemer Golf Course.

Shots were fired, injuring the suspect who was transported to the hospital. Authorities say he is in critical condition.

The press release notes no officers were injured, and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.

Several sheriff's office vehicles were on the scene, including a crime lab van, and a perimeter was set up around the neighborhood, according to the Star Tribune.

MPR reports two officers were involved and are on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting. The identities of the officers and suspect have not been released.
