As a mail truck burns, this postal carrier saves the packages

She got most of the mail out of her flaming truck before help arrived – and she's OK.

Neither snow nor fire could keep a postal worker from delivering mail in the Brainerd area on Friday – most of it, anyway.

Even as her truck sent flames shooting into the evening sky just north of Baxter, this carrier kept rescuing packages and other mail from the vehicle.

A passing driver who saw the fire posted the video below to YouTube. Michelle Price of Baxter told the Brainerd Dispatch in an email: "This woman went out of her way and risked her life for your packages. ... She deserves to be appreciated."

"She should probably get away in case it explodes," Price says at one point in the video.

Brainerd's fire chief told the Dispatch a firefighter and a Crow Wing County sheriff's deputy helped remove mail from the burning truck.

But a deputy fire chief told the Star Tribune the Postal Service employee, Kia Rodman, had most of the mail removed by the time help arrived.

Fire officials told the newspapers Rodman was treated for a mild case of smoke inhalation.
