Attorney issues apology for misuse of priest photo on archdiocese list

The attorney involved in multiple lawsuits involving abuse by priests in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis is apologizing for wrongly using a photo of the Rev. Patrick J. Ryan earlier this month.

KSTP reports attorney Jeff Anderson and Associates issued the apology to Ryan.

In a press release, Anderson says the image of Ryan was mistakenly confirmed as the Father Patrick Joseph Ryan contained on the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis' List.

The archdiocese released its list of "credibly accused" priests on Dec. 5.

Anderson's firm used the photo during a press conference and in a media kit. Upon finding out about the potential mistake, Anderson says they immediately alerted the media in attendance at the press conference.

Anderson said they are aware of two television stations that posted pictures including the mistaken picture of Ryan. Both stations were immediately contacted about the pictures that same night so the photo would be removed.

According to Anderson's statement, there are no known allegations of sexual abuse against the Father Patrick J. Ryan pictured on Dec. 5.

Anderson's apology letter to Ryan was issued the day after the press conference on Dec. 6.
