Authorities ID man in wheelchair who was struck and killed


Officials have identified the man in the wheelchair who died when he was hit by a vehicle Thursday night at Olson Memorial Highway and James Avenue North in Minneapolis.

The Associated Press reports the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says 37-year-old Manuel Steeber died Thursday night of blunt force injuries. His death has been ruled an accident. Only address given is for Douglas Place, an alcohol and drug treatment center in East Grand Forks.

Steeber was was headed north on James when he attempted to cross the highway at about 9:40 p.m., at an intersection with no crosswalk or traffic signal.

The driver of the car stopped and remained at the scene after hitting the man. Another driver stopped to assist, and the driver wasn't arrested. Police are reconstructing the accident.
