They can't keep up with thirsty drinkers at the Dubh Linn Irish Brew Pub in downtown Duluth.

The Duluth News Tribune offers this sad quote from co-owner Mike Maxim Jr: "We always run out of beer."

Now the newspaper reports the two year old boutique brewer is taking steps to double its capacity. Maxim told the newspaper that he hopes to have new equipment up and running by the end of summer. Maxim currently produces 80 gallon batches every 12 days in the basement of the pub on Superior St.

He also has teamed up with South Shore Brewery in Ashland,Wis. to produce Dubh Linn’s most popular house beers. The partnership comes as South Shore Brewery itself is expanding.

South Shore’s beers also are sold at taverns, and its six-packs are offered in stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Since 1995, the brewery has seen a 9 percent to 17 percent annual growth in production. South Shore Brewery is converting a former bowling alley in Washburn, Wis. into its bigger kegging and bottling operations.
