Beloved Twin Cities area bowling alley is closing

A beloved staple in the Twin Cities bowling community is closing for good next month.

Lariat Lanes announced on its Facebook Tuesday it will be packing up its pins and boxing up its bowling balls on May 10.

Lariat Lanes has been a staple in Richfield since 1958, offering open times for families, leagues and party options.

Vita.mn called it "a dull brick box outside, a tribute to the golden age of league bowling inside."

Minnesota Monthly said celebrities including Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, Garth Brooks, and the Beastie Boys have all tried to record a strike at Lariat Lanes over the years.

On Facebook and Twitter, Lariat fans reacted to the news.
