Best Buy is talking about its Thanksgiving and Black Friday plans now too

Best Buy will open at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving this year – the same time as 2014.

The Richfield-based electronics retailer said Tuesday the stores will stay open until 1 a.m. that night, then close until 8 a.m. on Black Friday.

Best Buy will have "doorbuster" deals available in store at that time, but those same prices will also be available online, the company says. You can preview Best Buy's Black Friday deals here. (Note that the hours may vary a little bit for Best Buys located at malls, or in cities with certain restrictions).

Best Buy's announcement of repeat Thanksgiving plans comes the day after Target made its holiday announcement – the bullseye will open at 6 p.m., the same time as last year.

According to CNBC, Toys R Us will open at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving; Sears, Macy’s and Belk have opted for 6 p.m. Wal-Mart hasn't announced its plans yet.

To open, or stay closed?

Consumer Affairs says at least 45 chains are now opting to be closed on Thanksgiving altogether – a shift in strategy after years of earlier and earlier opening times.

It appears to be the result of public pressure, as advocates argue its unfair to employees who shouldn’t have to go to work on a prominent holiday when they could be spending time with their family.

FOX 8 in Greensboro, North Carolina, spoke with the head of Wake Forest University’s Center for Retail Innovation. He told the station going back and staying closed is a good strategy now, since you’ll stand out as doing something different.

BestBlackFriday.com keeps an updated, running list of the stores that are staying closed. The site has confirmation from places such as GameStop, Half Price Books, Lowe’s, Sam’s Club, Costco and more.

There are, as is the norm now, plenty of online and pre-Black Friday deals to consider too – browse around on BestBlackFriday.com for a sampling.
