Best Buy uses Twitter to boost holiday sales

Retailers are increasingly making Twitter a big part of holiday sales strategies, the Wall Street Journal reports.

For evidence, look no further than Minnesota-based Best Buy, which last year bought ads on Twitter to promote sales the week of Thanksgiving, and not much else.

But this year, the electronics retailer mapped out an eight-week Twitter barrage, the Journal reports, as Best Buy tries to get creative in the way it uses social media. Among its efforts, the retailer has been hosting Twitter "parties" for targeted groups of people such as moms or fitness buffs to gather on Twitter and get gift ideas, the Journal reports.
