Bicyclist dies a week after Vadnais Heights accident, police seek witnesses
A man involved in a bicycle accident in Vadnais Heights last week died on Friday, and police are now looking for witnesses to his crash.
According to the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, 57-year-old Robert Prudhomme, of Cottage Grove, was in an accident at around 1:20 p.m. last Friday, Oct. 2.
The crash occurred in the 4200 block of Centerville Road, near the offices of TruGreen, Vadnais Heights, with Prudhomme taken to Regions Hospital with critical injuries.
He spent the week in a coma, unable to tell anyone what happened, and died Friday morning after being taken off life support.
Doctors have told police that his injuries "may not be consistent with a bicycle accident of this nature," and so officers are now trying to piece together what happened on October 2.
Several people are believed to have come to his aid when he was injured. He is believed to have been traveling southbound on Centerville Road.
"What is not known is how the accident happened," it says in the sheriff's office press release. "To help bring closure to his family and friends ... Sheriff’s Deputies investigating this incident are looking to talk to any person or persons who possibly saw how the bicyclist got injured or how he ended up on the roadway pavement."
It is believed that the vehicle closest to the victim around the time of the accident was a gray or silver GMC SUV that was occupied by a couple in their late 50s to early 60s.
Anyone with information about this incident should call the Ramsey County Investigations Unit on 651-266-7320.
