A bicyclist riding down Interstate 94 overnight was hit and killed by a vehicle.
The bicyclist was riding in a traffic lane on the freeway just after 3 a.m. Sunday and was hit by a Nissan driven by a 25-year-old Richfield woman, the Minnesota State Patrol's incident report says.
The incident happened on the southbound side of the interstate near West Broadway near Robbinsdale, the report notes. The driver and her 23-year-old passenger had no apparent injuries.
The report says alcohol was detected in the system of the driver.
The bicyclist has not been identified.
It is illegal to ride a bicycle on the freeway because they are restricted to motorized vehicles only.
Last week, a bicyclist was hit and killed while riding down Highway 97 in Forest Lake.
In 2014, five bicyclists were killed in traffic-related incidents on Minnesota roads, according to the Minnesota Department of Safety. Another 37 were severely injured.
