It's been five years since we last got a Big Boi full-length in 2012's Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, so we're long over due for something stanky to put in our Speakerboxxx. Thankfully, this morning Big Boi heard our prayers and unleashed "Mic Jack," the Adam Levine-assisted single from his third solo album Boomiverse, due out this June.
We've been getting quite a few Adam Levine hip-hop tracks over the past year or so, but this new Big Boi track is easily the best. While Levine's falsetto sounds a touch out of place within the first listen of Big Boi's Atlanta electro-funk, by the second chorus he sounds right at home and it blends perfectly. To hype up the occasion, both Big Boi and Adam Levine have been posting re-appropriated classic movie posters with the iconic duos replaced with Daddy Fat Stacks and the Maroon 5 singer themselves.
Co-produced by DJ Khalil and DJ Dahi, Big Boi is expected to bring the track to live April 24 on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. By then we should also have Boomiverse's promised second single "Kill Jill," featuring Young Jeezy and Run the Jewels' Killer Mike .
