Blizzard warnings in place as snow arrives back in Minnesota

Blizzard warnings are in place with winds likely to make driving "impossible" in some parts of Minnesota.

Minnesota is in for its first significant snowfall in weeks, and it could make driving almost impossible in some areas.

The National Weather Service says that the northern reaches of Minnesota are in line for more than 8 inches of snow.

After a warm start to the day, a cold front in the afternoon will lead to snow, and high winds are going to make conditions very dangerous on the roads in some parts of the state.

A blizzard warning has been issued for west-central Minnesota, where accumulations of 2-4 inches will be joined by winds gusting at up to 60mph.

This, the NWS says, will make travel "very dangerous to impossible, including during the evening commute," with damage to trees and power lines also possible.

What about the Twin Cities?

If you were hoping this was the day the Twin Cities would become more Christmassy, you'll be disappointed.

It looks like the metro area will miss the worst of the system, with less than an inch of snow expected in the southeast of the state.

Duluth could get anywhere between 3-6 inches, while International Falls can expect the biggest dump – because it just gets all the fun.
