It's been a long time coming, but the new cafe at the Mill City Museum has finally opened.
The Minnesota Historical Society announced in February 2016 it had struck a deal with D'Amico Catering to open a new eatery at both the Minneapolis museum and St. Paul's Minnesota History Center.
After opening D'Amico's Market House at the History Center in September, D'Amico has now opened its new concept at the Minneapolis museum as well. It replaces the Mill City Café D'Amico had operated since 2003.
What's on the menu?
Called Bushel & Peck, it brings an entirely new look and new menu to the space. Although the D'Amico name is more commonly associated with its Twin Cities Italian restaurant chain, Bushel & Peck is a contemporary American cafe with burgers, chicken sandwiches and salads featuring on the lunch menu. Beer and wine are on sale daily.
On weekends, brunch options are added including a Swedish pancake with lingonberry jam, eggs benedict and a frittata with leeks, mushrooms and ricotta. Two types of Bloody Mary make the drinks list for weekend brunch, one traditional and the other "botanical" made with aquavit.
"The entire Downtown East area has evolved and grown dramatically since the museum opened," said Larry D’Amico, co-owner of D’Amico & Partners, in a press release, adding that it was "time for an update" to better serve not just museum visitors, but also local residents and workers who have limited dining options in the neighborhood.
The hope is Bushel & Peck will drive more foot traffic to the popular museum on the banks of the Mississippi River. The name is a nod to the Mill City Farmer's Market, which runs year-round at the museum.
The cafe is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (also Mondays during July and August only); and Sunday 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
D'Amico will also roll out a Bushel & Peck food truck later this spring, which will provide "grab and go" lunch options for diners.
