candlelight vigil was held Friday evening for the two Iowa police officers killed near Des Moines early Wednesday morning.

The crowd flooded a park in Urbandale – which is northwest of Des Moines – to remember Officer Justin Martin and Sgt. Anthony Beminio.

Photos posted to Facebook and Twitter show a crowd-filled park, with people holding blue balloons and candles.

At one point, the blue balloons were released, floating away, up into the sky.

Urbandale Officer Martin was 24 years old, and Des Moines Sgt. Beminio was 38. The Des Moines Register reported both were killed in their squad cars Wednesday in what appeared to be an ambush attack.

The 46-year-old suspect, Scott Michael Greene was arrested hours later.

Since then, the community has been coming together to support the police departments.
