Body found amid toxic gas at I-35 rest stop

An Interstate 35 rest stop in Sturgeon Lake was closed Wednesday afternoon for several hours while a hazmat crew decontaminated a vehicle with a body inside surrounded by toxic gas, the Duluth News Tribune reports. Sturgeon Lake is about 50 miles south of Duluth.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a suicide note left on the car warned against opening the door because of the gases.

Troopers closed the rest stop while members of the hazmat team worked to eliminate the risk of chemical exposure to the public.

One trooper was transported to the hospital to be checked out for possible exposure but was released, Northlands NewsCenter says.

The rest stop reopened later that evening.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
