A boater spotted the body of a male near the Lock and Dam 1, south of Ford Parkway, on the border of Minneapolis and St. Paul just before 6:30 a.m., Kent Vnuk with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said at a news conference Wednesday.

The body was pulled from the river around 9 a.m.

Officials said the medical examiner will release the victim's identity and cause of death.

University of Minnesota Police Chief Matt Clark was also at the news conference.

The agency has been working with Hennepin County officials in the search for David Micheal Miller, a 20-year-old U of M student. Miller was last seen May 10 when he was leaving the Wilkins Hall dorm on the Twin Cities campus.

Officials wouldn't confirm the body found in the river was Miller, and Clark said at the news conference that police will continue their investigation until they get a ruling from the medical examiner's office.

The body pulled from the river Wednesday was found about 6 miles south of where Miller was last seen.

No other information has been released. We'll update this story as it develops.
