Body found in search for missing Brainerd dad

It was found during a search Thursday.

Authorities in Brainerd believe they've found the body of a local dad who mysteriously disappeared last month.

The last anyone saw of 29-year-old John Alan Greenwaldt was on July 4, when he was spotted getting into an "unknown vehicle." About two weeks later, his family reported him missing.

On Thursday afternoon, a search effort uncovered a body in a wooded area just off a local trail, according to a news release from Brainerd police

"Initial indications are that it is" Greenwaldt, the release says.

The case is now under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the body (as well as cause of death) will be identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.

When asked whether foul play is suspected, a Brainerd police department staff member told GoMN more information about the case would be available Monday.

Greenwaldt was the father of four young kids.

His family set up a Facebook page called Bring John Home, and on Thursday thanked the volunteers who showed up to search for him.
