A body was found frozen in the Red River Wednesday.
According to Grand Forks police, someone passing by discovered the body and notified authorities around 3:15 p.m.
When officers arrived, they discovered a man's body, "partially encased in ice" near downtown Grand Forks' railroad bridge.
Responders had to spend about six hours digging out the body, WDAZ reports.
Detectives tell the station they don't know how long the body has been there. However, there are no obvious signs of trauma, so they don't suspect murder.
Lt. Brett Johnson told the Bismarck Tribune there are no current missing persons cases within the city, so they don't know who it is yet.
The paper adds that there was a beige backpack near the body, and police hope that will help them identify the body.
The incident is under investigation.
