Body of a second missing boater found in Lake of the Woods

Authorities have recovered the body of a second boater who had been missing and presumed drowned on Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota.

The Northern Light Region reports the body of Cody Ostendorf, 24, was found by a local resident near Flag Island on Lake of the Woods at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The body of Justin Haugtvedt, 22, was found by search teams Friday night in the southwest area of Oak Island, in approximately 14 feet of water.

The bodies of both men will be transported to the University of North Dakota Medical Examiner’s Office in Grand Forks, N.D., according to the Grand Forks Herald.

The third missing man, Keith Ayers, 28, has not yet been found. Family members found one of his shoes on the shore of Oak Island on Thursday, according to the Herald.

The three men, all from Baudette, left Sunset Resort on Oak Island around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, and were reported missing on Saturday. They had planned on staying at Flag Island that night, and their 16-foot Lund boat was found capsized near the northeast corner of the island the next day.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help support the families of the three men, and it has so far raised more than $24,000.
