Rock the Garden will return to familiar territory in Minneapolis next summer – and will be headlined by a familiar face.

Bon Iver has been announced as the headliner for the Walker Art Center/The Current-run festival, which returns to the newly-revamped Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in 2017 after this year's Flaming Lips-headlined festival was moved over to Boom Island.

Singer-songwriter Justin Vernon will take to the stage on Saturday, July 22, and a limited number of pre-sale tickets for Walker/MPR members go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m.

Vernon is more commonly found at the Eaux Claires festival, which the Wisconsin native co-curates, but he's crossing the border to appear at Rock the Garden for the first time since 2008.

It will be Bon Iver's only Twin Cities performance of the year, the Walker Art Center says, as Vernon tours on the back of their Grammy-nominated album 22, A Million.

Bon Iver burst onto the scene in 2007 with the album For Emma, Forever Ago and has released three more critically-lauded albums since then.

The Sculpture Garden has undergone a $33 million renovation that will be completed next summer. The redesign of the park and gardens will include a "gateway" between the Walker and Minneapolis's theater district, the Star Tribune reports.
