Booked: Reservations at hotly anticipated eatery stuffed within hours

It may be hard to get table at a new Minneapolis restaurant which has been called one of the most anticipated restaurant openings in the country.

Star New York City chef and Bloomington, Minnesota, native Gavin Kaysen's new restaurant, Spoon and Stable (previously called Merchant), opens Nov. 16, but reservations at the North Loop eatery are already hard to come by.

Spoon and Stable began taking reservations Monday and the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal says all reservations for Sunday's opening day are taken, and reservations for the private dining areas – which start at $1,000 – are booked through at least Dec. 20.

A quick search on the restaurant's online reservation tool shows a table for two at 7 p.m. isn't available until January, while 5-9 p.m. reservations are scarce, but possible in December.

Kaysen told the Business Journal that patrons shouldn't be discouraged – walk-in customers could still get a seat in the bar or lounge area in the restaurant's opening weeks and they'll do their best to accommodate everyone they can.

Minneapolis Eater calls menu prices "affordable," noting salads start at $8, and it's $11 for a small serving of pasta. Prices top out at about $33 for a skirt steak. Check out the menu here.

DeRusha says soon people will fly to the Twin Cities specifically to eat at Spoon and Stable, which is good for Kaysen. But nearby eateries may also get a boost, DeRusha says, if they're "discovered on the national radar."

Marcus Samuelsson, a chef and mentor on ABC's "The Taste," visited Kaysen's new restaurant, calling it the best new place in the nation.
