Reports: Boy pulled from a St. Louis Park middle school pool dies

Author:

The seventh-grader pulled from a St. Louis Park middle school pool Thursday morning has died, FOX 9 reports.

The station says the 12-year-old died Friday night. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.

KSTP reports a spokesperson for St. Louis Park says police were notified Saturday that the boy died overnight at St. Paul Children's Hospital.

The boy was pulled from the pool around 9 a.m. Thursday, during gym class. KSTP says a teacher pulled the student from the pool unresponsive – not breathing and unconscious – and performed CPR. According to the station, police say it was after a physical education class had wrapped up.

FOX 9 reports the student was first taken to Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital and later transferred to Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. Little information about the boy's condition or the incident has come out since then.

School officials called it a "serious pool-related incident" when it happened. WCCO reported students at the school say those who can't swim can stay in shallow water for the class; it's unknown whether the boy could swim.
