'Breadcrumbing' is the latest dating trend – it might be worse than 'ghosting'

Move over "ghosting," there's a new sucky dating trend in town.

This is the age of digital dating: so many people to meet, and (seemingly) just as many disappointments.

By now you're probably familiar with "ghosting" (it's been added to the dictionary, after all). It's when sparks are really flying with that potential suitor, than all of a sudden they delete you from all three of the apps you matched on, and quit responding to your texts.

Well, now there's a new dating trend in town: "Breadcrumbing."

You might be wondering what the hell that is, so we'll explain.

Scenario:

You find that cutie on Coffee Meets Bagel, sparks are really flying. You meet up, grab a coffee and a bagel, things are going super well.

Then you part ways, and suddenly she or he seems completely over it.

All your messages to them get single word responses (if you even get a response), and the love interest is always "busy" or "not feeling well" anytime you try to set up plans.

This goes on long enough that you decide they are probably over you.

Then BAM! He or she likes your latest Instagram or throws a heart reaction on your new profile pic.

The love interest is rekindled! Until next week when your paramour does it all over again.

It's time to face the facts: you're being led on, aka breadcrumbed.

Worse than ghosting?

Maybe. At least with ghosting, the love interest is just gone. You eventually get over it. Breadcrumbing can go on for a long time, though.

If you are a victim, call the jerk out or call it off. It's as simple as that.
