3 killed, 5 injured in multiple-car crash on I-94
Lt. Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol confirmed that at least three people were killed in a three-vehicle crash involving a minivan rollover on westbound Interstate 94 early Sunday afternoon, according to Fox 9. More details were expected Monday.
The crash happened at about 1:10 p.m. near 49th Avenue in north Minneapolis, local media reported.
There were five injured, the Pioneer Press reports.
Three people were hospitalized at North Memorial in critical condition, one in serious condition, the Star Tribune reported.
WCCO Radio host Steve Thompson came across the accident while driving, WCCO reported.
“It was a minivan,” Thompson said. “A couple of people who had been ejected from the vehicle were still alive, but at least three were dead. The woman I covered with a tarp was clearly dead.”
Westbound lanes were closed at Dowling Avenue until about 4:40 p.m., patrol officials said, the Star Tribune reported.
Roeske said investigators did not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, the newspaper reported.
