Bring me the booya

The Pioneer Press has the story of an Iraq war veteran on a mission to hit a dozen booya festivals this season. Craig Kostelecky, 48, plans to be in St. Paul Park Saturday. He lost his appetite for booya after years of his parents dragging him along. But after serving 15 months in Iraq a few years ago, and going through a divorce, the taste for booya came back. He found it comforting. Now he calls booya festivals the "Facebook of 50 years ago;" gathering places for communities to celebrate. "Each one is the flavor of that community, the taste of that community," Kostelecky said. "Nobody makes it the same." He helped the Pioneer Press compile a hearty list of statewide festivals coming up this season.

The Finland Minn. fest is back today thanks to committed volunteers, as Bring Me the News reported Thursday.

If you want to "taste" it from the Internet or try to make it yourself, here is a recipe.
