Here at BringMeTheNews, we eat, sleep and breathe "what's next." So when local radio icon Tom Barnard asked us to be part of his next big thing, we jumped at the chance. Barnard has dominated Twin Cities morning drive radio for decades. Last year he and his family started a new endeavor – an online podcast that already has nearly 200,000 downloads a month.
On Tuesday, May 28, Tom Barnard will take his uber-popular podcast LIVE ... in a one-of-a-kind partnership with BringMeTheNews.
What can you expect from this new collaboration? The unexpected.
BringMeTheNews founder and award-winning journalist Rick Kupchella, Minnesota television news legend Don Shelby and me, BringMeTheNews Editor-in-Chief Amy Hockert, will give listeners their daily dose of news with a fresh, elevated delivery ... followed by an engaging quarter-hour of news talk between Barnard and a rotating collection of BringMeTheNews anchors.
We're excited about the partnership because this live podcast-format will elevate BringMeTheNews with a new execution – and a new reach – and yet another high-caliber talent working with us, in the form of Tom Barnard.
As Shelby says: "Too many people base their opinions today on opinion. We are going to base opinion ... on fact."
Here at BringMeTheNews we also think we've learned a thing or three about how to deliver news rooted in mobile and social news delivery.
This social news play is something we'll be bringing to Barnard's team in a hurry. We'll spin our first quarter-hour segments through social media – immediately.
So, we hope you'll join us every Monday through Thursday at 4 p.m. - live - online. We'll even make the podcasts easy for you to find, streaming them right here on our website.
The programs are free ... you can download them on your smartphone, iPod or computer. And if you don't have time to follow us live, we'll archive the shows online.
Something interesting is happening here, folks: Barnard ... Shelby ... Kupchella ... Hockert... and our full team of BringMeTheNews journalists are making new media NEW again.
We hope to find you tuned-in, and as always thank you for supporting us here at BringMeTheNews: A Better State of News.
