A pair of brothers were involved in a tragic farm accident over the weekend.

A farmer ran over his younger brother while backing up with a combine in a cornfield in Douglas County Friday night, the Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

According to the release, 63-year-old Donovan Wussow called 911 at 8:17 p.m. after he ran over his brother, Ewald Wussow, 62, who he didn't know was in the field.

The Leaf Valley First Responders and North Ambulance responded, but Ewald died at the scene. He was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy – officials said the death appears to be an accident.

The incident happened in a cornfield northwest of Douglas County Roads 5 and 6 in the Leaf Valley Township.
