Buffalo Wild Wings announces first outlets in Asia

Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. said Wednesday it has reached an agreement with a restaurant operator in the Philippines to open in two locations in the country in 2014.

The Star Tribune reports the expansion marks the Golden Valley-based restaurant company's first entry into the Asian market. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Associated Press quoted a statement from Matt Brokl, the chain's vice president of international development that said the Philippines was a logical choice because it is one of Asia's expanding economies with a growing middle class and passionate sports fans who will appreciate the beer and wings served among giant televisions carrying sports programming.

Buffalo Wild Wings' global expansion plans include opening its first restaurants in Mexico and the Middle East this year. It already operates 13 restaurants in Canada. year. Buffalo Wild Wings has about 930 outlets in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the Business Journal reports that McDonald's is going after chicken wing fans with the national launch of Mighty Wings, speculating it might increase both demand and prices for wings.
