It's been a long time since Coon Rapids has been to the State Tournament in boys basketball. 1983 to be exact.

The Cardinals are just two wins away from making a second trip to State after Thursday's dramatic 54-52 win over Anoka in the Section 7AAAA playoffs.

According to ABCNewspapers, Anoka took a 52-51 lead on a 3-pointer with six seconds to play before Coon Rapids senior Sam Carver drilled a deep three at the buzzer to lift the Cardinals over the Tornadoes.

CTN Coon Rapids broadcast the entire game. You can watch in full or start the video at the 1:26:30 mark to see the drama unfold.

Coon Rapids has 13 wins this season, which is seven more than they had from 2013-2016. They won once in 2013-14, twice in 2014-15 and three times in 2015-16.

Coon Rapids plays Andover in the semifinals Tuesday. If they win that game they'll play for a trip to State against Duluth East or Forest Lake.

Forest Lake is the No. 1 seed in the section. Coon Rapids beat them in the season opener.
