A cable snapped Sunday night on the Stillwater Lift Bridge, leaving the bridge open to motor vehicle traffic but closed to boats.

Minnesota Department of Transportation officials told KSTP the cable snapped at about 8 p.m. Sunday as the bridge was being lowered.

Repair crews were expected to be working on a fix Monday morning and the bridge could be open as early as noon, KSTP reported.

MnDOT officials did not immediately offer details about why the cable snapped, the Star Tribune reported.
