Call for gunless militia to save farm goes unanswered
A Hudson, Wis., farm owner, about $250,000 behind on her mortgage, is going to some great lengths in an attempt to stop a foreclosure – including a call for a gunless militia to help her block the bank from taking the property, Fox 9 reports.
But Fox 9 says no one has answered Bonnie Tennessen's call on a militia website: "is there anyone in Wisconsin willing to help us stand-off the county sheriff? He is threatening to bring out the SWAT team."
"We were not asking for anyone to come out with guns, we weren't trying to start a civil war," Tennessen told Fox 9.
Local Sheriff John Stilts told the station, "We have noticed an increase in what I call sovereign citizens – people who want to denounce their citizenship in the U.S. and govern themselves."
The sheriff said he is just trying to do his job. The farm was sold at a sheriff's auction a bank, but Tennessen claims she sold it to her brother in a quitclaim deed sale prior to the auction. The sheriff said he plans to examine all the documents before his next move.
