Just three weeks after announcing her bid for U.S. Congress, founder of CaringBridge Sona Mehring says she's dropping out of the 2nd Congressional District race, according to the Pioneer Press.

The Democrat would have challenged six-term Republican U.S. Rep John Kline.

The announcement was made in an email to supporters Wednesday. Mehring says her true passion was still with the nonprofit, where she recently stepped down as CEO to begin her campaign.

CaringBridge is a website that connects patients to their loved ones while facing a health crisis.

Mering's departure leaves the Democratic race in the south suburban district to Mike Obermuller, the Star Tribune noted, who was defeated by Kline last November.
