A Carver County Sheriff's deputy is in the hospital following a serious crash last night, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.

Deputy Eric Boder was driving on Jonathan Carver Pkwy and 4th Street shortly after 9 p.m. when a motorist crossed the center line and slammed into Boder's cruiser head-on. An off-duty firefighter witnessed the crash and stopped to help, according to FOX 9.

The station reports Boder, a 10-year-veteran of the Carver Sheriff's Department, was three hours into his shift when the accident occurred. He was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center.

The other driver, described as a 46-year-old man, also sustained "serious injuries" but was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The State Patrol's incident report states both drivers were wearing seatbelts. According to an Associated Press report, emergency responders used the jaws of life to free Boder from his cruiser.

Both men were taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center. A representative of the hospital told BringMeTheNews that Boder is in satisfactory condition.
