A Sartell baker will showcase her skills on national television Monday night when she appears in an episode of the Food Network's "Cake Wars."

The St. Cloud Times reports Amanda Hansen, a self-taught cake decorator who works at Coborn's, appears in the show partnering Florida baker Sarah Watts as they create Dr. Seuss-themed confections.

The show premieres at 8 p.m. on Monday, with a $10,000 grand prize on offer for competitors. Encores will air at 11 p.m. Tuesday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Although not able to comment on what happens in the episode, Hansen told the newspaper her interest in art, sculpture and pottery has helped her develop her skills as a cake decorator.

WJON reports she has been decorating cakes since she was a teenager, saying she finds it a relaxing activity and for the past eight years she has competed in nationwide competitions, which is how she met Watts.

She told WJON she felt like an underdog on the show, sharing a background in retail bakery work with Watts, who owns Sugar Mama's Sweets in Gainesville, Florida.

"I might just be a grocery girl [and Sarah too] but we grocery gals we were keeping up with the other people."
