The Morrison County Sheriff's Office said in a news release it was called to a construction site, just east of the school near the bus garage, around 11 a.m. Friday after a report of a 60-year-old man being run over.

The victim was identified Sunday by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office as Vernon Barthel of Rice. He died of multiple blunt force injuries after being run over by a vehicle.

The sheriff's office, after speaking with witnesses, says Barthel was "backed over" by the truck that was being driven by a 57-year-old from Motley. Both are employees of Joe's Excavating, based out of Sartell. The truck is also registered under that company.

Barthel was airlifted to a Robbinsdale hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is being investigated.

A search of Occupational Safety & Health Administration incident statistics shows no violations in the past 10 years for Joe's Excavating.

Since 2005 in the state of Minnesota, the agency has recorded 11 workplace fatalities involving trucks.
