The principal of Chanhassen High School is stepping down effective immediately after being charged with child porn possession.

Tim Dorway was arrested in December and charged with seven felony counts of possessing child pornography videos.

On Tuesday, the Eastern Carver County School Board announced that Dorway's employment with the district ended effective January 6, a decision agreed to by Dorway and his legal counsel.

His termination is expected to be confirmed at the next school board meeting on Jan. 23, with the district saying "no additional compensation" will be given to the former principal as part of the severance agreement.

In the meantime, interim principal Dick Ungar is expected to remain in place throughout the rest of the year, with the search to appoint a permanent principal expected to start on July 1.

Dorway, who is out on bail, had been on paid leave following his arrest.

He made his latest court appearance on Tuesday, the Chanhassen Villager reports, attending a brief hearing during which he waived the reading of the complaint against him and said he had no outstanding questions.

He will next appear in court in April.
