A Minnesota high school principal is now charged after investigators say he had several child porn videos.

Timothy Dorway, the 44-year-old principal of Chanhassen High School, was charged Thursday with seven felony counts of possessing child porn videos.

He was arrested at his home Tuesday following an investigation by the Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. They'd received a tip that Dorway had uploaded possible child porn to a Dropbox account, and that Dorway accessed the account from both his home and work computer, the criminal complaint says.

After executing a search warrant, investigators found at least 11 videos on Dorway's Dropbox account that featured pre-pubescent girls performing sexual acts, the criminal complaint says.

When investigators interviewed Dorway, he said he's interested in pornography that involves 11- to 13-year-old girls, and admitted he gets Dropbox links of child porn videos from others and would sometimes upload them to his own Dropbox account, the complaint states.

Dorway is on paid leave from Chanhassen High School, which is standard procedure, the Eastern Carver County School District said in a statement Thursday. The district is also conducting its own investigation, noting in a second update that Dropbox isn't provided to district employees, and Dorway didn't buy his account with district funds.

If he's convicted, Dorway could face up to 10 years in jail for six of the felony charges, while the seventh count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

More on the task force

The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force works with state and local law enforcement agencies to respond to child pornography and "cyber enticement" cases. It's part of a national program.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children says reports of "sextortion" have gone up significantly in each of the past two years. Three-quarters of the time, it involves a female child victim; 15 percent of the time it's a male child.

As expected, the internet has made child porn more prevalent. The Department of Justice says online communities can give sexual predators easier access to possible victims, and notes that once an image is online, it can be there forever – circulating the web, and affecting the victim forever.
