A Duluth man, and martial arts enthusiast, has been charged after allegedly stabbing his former roommate with a sword Monday night.
The Duluth News Tribune reports 43-year-old Kyle Dean McClain is charged with first- and second-degree assault.
Police were called the the Duluth Detox Center shortly after 10 p.m. after the 43-year-old victim, who has not been identified, showed up with a stab wound.
Police asked the victim if he knew who stabbed him, he said it was a man named Kyle, according to the complaint.
"He hit me with a (expletive) sword!" the victim told police.
After following a trail of blood from the detox center to a residence in the 1000 block of East Third St, police found McClain and two roommates at the home.
The roommates told police that the victim used to stay at the house but was no longer welcome because of loud, drunken and destructive behavior.
Although the roommates claim they didn't see the stabbing take place and McClain denies having contact with the victim, the following series of events are described as follows:
The victim came to the house Monday and asked if he could stay, but McClain angrily ordered him to leave. He left.
McClain said he might have to hurt the victim.
The man returned.
The complaint states McClain shouted "That's it!" before running downstairs and confronting to victim.
Police found a sword inside the home and the roommates said it belongs to McClain.
The victim was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment. His current condition is not known.
McClain is currently in custody at the St. Louis County Jail. Bail is set at $20,000.
