Charges: Employee brought gun to school after Conn. shooting

A school employee has been charged with a misdemeanor after bringing a loaded gun to Seward Elementary in Minneapolis and storing it in a locker last December.

WCCO reports 59-year-old Kathleen Elinor Scozzari worked as an education assistant in a kindergarten classroom.

Police responded to the school on the morning of Dec. 19 after someone reported Scozzari's alleged activity.

An officer and the school principal spoke with Scozzari, who admitted to having a permit to carry a concealed weapon. She eventually allowed the officer to look inside her locker, where a loaded Ruger .357 was recovered.

According to the complaint, Scozzari had been bringing the gun to school since the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn. on Dec. 14.

She was escorted out of the school and placed on administrative leave.

Scozzari faces one count of a permit holder possessing a dangerous weapon on school property, which carries a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
