Two junior hockey players are accused of making a sex video with a 15-year old girl in a motel room in Moorhead, Minnesota, and then sending the video to other people.
The Fargo Forum reports the two, Thomas Carey and Brandon Smith, both 19, were each charged Tuesday in Clay County with using a minor in a sexual performance, possession of child pornography and distributing pornography, all felonies.
The two men are players with the Lincoln Stars junior hockey team, and the incident occurred on February 14 after their team played a game in Fargo against the Fargo Force, the newspaper said.
According to police, the girl had met Carey, a former Moorhead High School hockey player, on Facebook about a week before the game, the Forum reports, and they had sex at a Moorhead motel room after the game.
She discovered they had been videotaped when she began getting messages from other hockey players and girls making reference to the video. The girl believes Smith was the one who recorded the incident.
The cellphone video was distributed to an unknown number of people, including hockey players and Moorhead High School students, the Associated Press reports. Carey had sent the video to the girl as well, she told police.
The Lincoln Stars released a statement saying the two players have been suspended indefinitely for violating the USHL’s code of conduct, and that the team is cooperating with the police investigation.
Carey and Smith are scheduled to make their first court appearances July 10.
