A 60-year-old man accused of talking about sex with a girl he thought was 13 years old is now facing felony charges.
Prosecutors said Dean Lee Swerman randomly friended a girl named Dakota on Facebook and then began texting with her, even though she said she was 13 years old, according to the criminal complaint.
They texted about sexual things and made plans to meet up, the complaint says.
However, Dakota was actually an undercover Pope County Sheriff's Deputy. Swerman was arrested Friday, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Swerman eventually admitted to texting with "Dakota," and a search warrant of his phone revealed their conversations and photos Dakota had sent him, the complaint says.
Swerman has been charged with soliciting a child through electronic communication to engage in sexual conduct; engaging in electronic communication relating or describing sexual conduct with a child; and fifth-degree drug possession.
