A Lakeville mother has been charged with child neglect after being found blackout drunk on a snow-covered sidewalk while her two young kids were at home.
Christine Teresa Jewle Smith, 26, was found by police near the Kenwood Trail in Lakeville on Feb. 12, when she was drunk and "unable to comprehend basic questions," according to a criminal complaint.
She'd injured herself falling down, and a breath test registered a result of .288.
After she was taken to a hospital, staff contacted police who found out that she had left her two children, aged 4 and 7, home alone.
They were found by police asleep in a bedroom, with the children's grandfather called over to watch them.
They were left alone for four hours, from 10 p.m. onwards, having been dropped off by their grandfather around 9:40 p.m. that night.
Smith apparently told the kids she'd only be gone for 10 minutes on a quick trip to Green Mill for some hot wings.
While at Green Mill waiting for her wings she admitted to having a "couple whiskey shots and blacking out."
The misdemeanor charge of child neglect carries a maximum sentence of up to a year in jail and between $900–$3,000 fines.
