Charges say Minneapolis man shot three women 25 times

A criminal complaint against a Minneapolis man charged with shooting three women outside a party this month claims the women were hit by 25 shots, WCCO reports.

The victims survived the July 9 shooting but suffered serious injuries that required surgery. According to WCCO, authorities say one woman was struck by nine bullets in her arm, abdomen, thigh, back, and buttocks. The other two were hit eight times each.

The charges filed Thursday against 20-year-old Delonte Thomas include three counts each of second-degree and first-degree assault, KSTP says. The complaint cites witness accounts that Thomas had left the party after a disagreement with other guests and later returned with a semi-automatic weapon, the station says.

The shooting in the early hours of July 9 came only hours after Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau had walked the streets of the city's north side, appealing to residents to put down their guns and settle their disputes without violence.

The chief opted for that face-to-face appeal with residents after a particularly violent 4th of July holiday weekend that saw three shootings, which left two people dead.

KSTP says Thomas is in custody and prosecutors have requested that bail be set at $1 million.
