Charges: Woman set up encounter between relative, 9, and sex offender

Publish date:

A 48-year-old Minnesotan woman has been charged with arranging a sexual encounter between her 9-year-old relative and a sex offender.

Cynthia Ann Mitteness, of Mayer, is alleged to have taken the girl – who will remain anonymous due to her age and the nature of the crime – to Iowa last month, and after she came back the girl remarked that "'the guy' gave a good massage."

According to a criminal complaint seen by BringMeTheNews, the girl said she had gone to the house of Michael Williams, 50, a man on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry having been previously convicted of indecent exposure and first degree sexual assault.

The girl was visibly upset upon her return and police were alerted to the case by another relative. They discovered explicit Facebook messages between Mitteness and Williams.

These messages involved conversations of previous times in which Williams allegedly molested the girl while in Mitteness' presence, as well as discussing arrangements for the next time they were due to meet.

During an interview, Mitteness admitted bringing the girl to meet with Williams for the first time this past spring, stating that Williams "likes young girls as well as adult girls."

She also admitted to being present when Williams was giving the girl a massage, as well as taking nude photographs of the girl with the intention of sending them to Williams.

She has been charged with 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of child endangerment and one count of contribution to the need for child protection services.

KSTP reports that Williams has also been arrested on felony human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of a minor.

Mitteness is due to appear in court on July 15.
