A Cloquet man died in an ATV accident on a trail between Aurora and Hoyt Lakes on the Iron Range.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that Ryan Ewald, 37, was driving a four-wheeler on Saturday afternoon when he attempted to climb a steep, slippery hill, near the Ranger Off-road Trail. His wife Amy was on the back of the ATV. Both of them fell off the vehicle and when it rolled over, it struck Ryan Ewald's head.

The Associated Press reports the couple was riding in the lead with a group of friends at the time of the rollover and CPR was administered on the scene. Ryan Ewald was transported to Northern Pines Hospital in Aurora, where he died. His wife was not seriously injured.

The incident remains under investigation.
