Comparing oranges to oranges: did TV show steal yapping fruit idea?


Orange you glad you don't have to settle this juicy dispute?

Some sassy citrus is at the center of a lawsuit filed by a Fargo ad agency. H2M claims the title character of the Cartoon Network television show "Annoying Orange" was lifted from a marketing campaign the agency put together for the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

The spots featuring a loudmouthed character called "Talking Orange" were televised in North Dakota and western Minnesota from 2005 to 2010, the Associated Press reports. The creators of "Annoying Orange" are North Dakota natives who studied film at MSU Moorhead.

But the defendants moved to California before the debut of H2M's character and one of them told the Fargo Forum he'd never seen the North Dakota ads until a couple of years ago when the agency raised its concerns.
