Dayton wants Congress to extend unemployment benefits

Mark Dayton joined more than a dozen other Democratic governors in signing a letter urging Congress to extend unemployment benefits for more than 2 million out-of-work Americans. Dayton also wants authorization for Minnesota to continue emergency state unemployment benefits.

The state bonding bill is providing the final $4.5 million needed for the facility. Former U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar secured an initial $16 million federal appropriation in 2010, and $5.5 million in local and private investment funding was already secured. The center will provide an indoor terminal area for the transferring of bus passengers and an 8-bay bus boarding platform, along with an indoor passenger-waiting area, seating and public restrooms.

Legacy report: concerns over possible conflicts of interest, misuse of funds

The legislative auditor on Wednesday released the first in-depth review of the state's voter-approved Legacy Amendment, which bumped up a sales tax to help fund arts and outdoors projects across the state. The auditor's report says oversight is "generally adequate" but also made some specific recommendations for improvement.
